Welcome Back to the 1970’s: The World of In the Beginning

Rediscover the world of In the Beginning! In celebration of Rockdale’s Bicentennial and in honor of Rockdale Temple Sisterhood’s In the Beginning cookbook series, distinguished ethnographer Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett will give a presentation. Barbara is University Professor Emerita and Professor Emerita of Performance Studies at New York University and author of numerous books including Destination Culture: Tourism, Museums. She lectures and writes frequently about food, having authored the seminal article “Playing to the Senses: Food as a Performance Medium.” She is famous for her collection of 14,000 books, of which 1,200 are Jewish cookbooks, that reflect the diversity of the Jewish experience.

In addition, we will enjoy heavy appetizers prepared by local women chefs, featuring Suzy DeYoung of La Soupe and Milya Cafe. The appetizers are inspired by the In the Beginning cookbooks. Drinks will be included, featuring custom cocktails: “The Joseph Jonas” and “The Rocktail.” There will be giveaways and lots of fun! Cost is $10 per person. Register on our website or call the office 513-859-9900.
