Temple Sholom announced in a press release today that Rabbi Ari Jun has been appointed as its Senior Rabbi. Jun was elected unanimously in a vote from the congregation on Dec. 18th, and his tenure began this week.
Jun will be the fifth Rabbi to lead the 71-year-old progressive congregation founded by Rabbi Stanley R. Brav and most recently led by Rabbi Miriam Terlinchamp, who left the synagogue to run Judaism Unbound in 2023.
In a statement, Temple Sholom President Robin Miller said, “Rabbi Jun is the perfect person to act as Temple Sholom’s spiritual leader. He combines the best attributes of his predecessors and is poised to lead us into an exciting and meaningful future.”
Jun was ordained by Hebrew Union College and grew up the son of two Rabbis. He is the former director of the Cincinnati Jewish Community Relations Council.
“Temple Sholom is vital to Cincinnati’s religious tapestry,” he said. “It fuses Jewish spirituality with the pursuit of justice in a way that benefits us all. It will be uplifting and exhilarating to lead an organization such as Sholom, which advocates for its values while celebrating the joy in Jewish life.”
According to the release, Jun will lead his first service as senior Rabbi on Jan 24. He will be officially welcomed and installed by the congregation on May 2.
