Under One Roof Sukkah Art Exhibit
Celebrate the festival of Sukkot* this fall with the Under One Roof community
art exhibit, which features artwork designed by various individuals and groups
as they interpret the central theme, _Unity_.
The Under One Roof Sukkah Art Exhibit will be on display from October 7 – 23
in a temporary sukkah in the Mayerson JCC courtyard.
What does unity mean to you? How can we aspire to make our world more unified
The idea of unity can be interpreted in many ways within Jewish thought and
culture. Every human is created _b’tzelem Elohim_ , in the image of the
divine, as in Genesis we are taught that all humans are holy. In Leviticus
19:18, we learn that we must love our neighbor as we love ourselves,_v’ahavta
l’re’akha kamokha_. This furthers the need to treat every human being as holy,
as we are all created in the image of G-d. This was a grounding principle in
coming to this year’s theme.
*Sukkot is the Jewish festival giving thanks for the fall harvest. It also commemorates the 40 years of the Israelites wandering in the desert after Sinai. It is also the Hebrew word for the temporary structures built to celebrate the holiday.
