Sukkot Ushpitzin: Sukkot Ghost Summoning and Drag Show
_elech_ is hosting our first-ever Sukkot celebration on **October 19th** at
**Transform Cincy**. Join us as we combine the spooky and the spiritual to
celebrate Sukkot through the traditional ancestral ghost-summoning ritual,
“ushpitzin,” and learn about modern witchcraft.
_What is Sukkot?_
Sukkot is a Jewish harvest festival that begins five days after Yom Kippur. It
is named after the booths or huts (sukkot in Hebrew) in which Jews are
supposed to dwell during this week-long celebration.
_What is Havdalah?_
Havdalah is the brief ritual that separates Shabbat from the new week.
_What is Ushpizin?_
_“Ushpizin”_ is Aramaic for “guests,” a reference to the supernal guests who
come to visit us in the sukkah.
_What is elech?_
elech is Cincinnati’s Queer Jewish Community that fosters belonging for
members of our community.
_Do I have to be Jewish?_
No! And we’re not a synagogue, and our leaders aren’t always rabbis.
_Do I have to be queer?_
Not necessarily. We’re a radically welcoming community; come as you are.
please be mindful of intentionally creating a safe and validating space for
queer people to practice jewishly, together.
