Cincinnati Founded Manischewitz Signs “BYJew” Jake Retzlaff to Sponsorship Deal

Jake Retzlaff, the first Jewish quarterback in Brigham Young University’s history, has signed a sponsorship deal with Cincinnati-founded Jewish food company Manischewitz.

Retzlaff, who has embraced the nickname “BYJew,” is one of just three Jewish students attending the Latter-day Saints university.

A junior who took over as the starter before the season, Retzlaff has led the Cougars to a strong 10-2 record and a No. 18 ranking. He’s thrown for 2,796 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Manischewitz, founded in Cincinnati in 1888, makes kosher wine, macaroons, and matzah. The company is no longer based in Cincinnati or owned by its namesake founding family.

Manischewitz has announced it will produce special-edition Jake Retzlaff Matzah Boxes to “highlight the fusion of athletic success and cultural heritage.” Retzlaff will also appear in social media videos, sharing his story and connection to the brand.
