Support for the State of Israel has been a cornerstone of American Jewish life
since 1948. Interestingly, before Israel’s independence, the Jewish community
has had a diversity of opinion about the role that Zionism should play in
American Jew’s lives. This course explores the history of non-Zionism in
American Reform Jewish life prior to the establishment of Israel to better
understand the echos we are witnessing today in American Jewish discussions
about our relationship with Israel. If you’re interested in better
understanding what we confront in our present day, learning this history is
helpful context.
