Tuesdays with Torah | The Jewish Comedic Legacy
Presented by: Rabbi Zachary Goodman
From the shtetls of Eastern Europe to the stages of Broadway and the writers’
rooms of Hollywood, Jewish humor has played a defining role in shaping modern
comedy. This three-part class explores the historical and cultural forces that
have placed Jews at the forefront of the comedy industry. We will examine key
genres, discuss major themes, and unpack the anxieties and resilience that
define Jewish humor. Through clips, texts, and discussion, we will explore how
Jewish comedians have turned laughter into both an art form and a means of
survival.
